Movie watching was pretty slow for me in 2017, despite seeing so many films that I was interested in. I put it down to living in Taiwan and never visiting the cinema, where I prefer to watch films (it's just not the same at home). Now that I'm in Australia, and with so many films I'm interested in coming out this year, I'm keen to stay more up to date on the latest releases.

Here's the films I can't wait for in 2018.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure PosterThe Maze Runner: Death Cure

Like every other girl on the planet, I have a huge crush on Dylan O'Brien and will watch absolutely anything he's in. Having said that, I love dystopian movies and I've loved every Maze Runner film so far and I've been waiting impatiently for Death Cure. Genre and celebrity crush aside, I'm here for the soundtrack and cinematography. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is having it be the first in the series that I haven't seen with one of my best friends.

Winchester PosterWinchester

I'm a huge wimp but I can't resist a horror. I didn't even need to read the description to want to see this movie, because as a Supernatural fan I've naturally researched the name, the woman, the house... you'd expect no less of me, right? I have no expectations for this, but that just means I won't be disappointed by whatever comes of it.

Pacific Rim Uprising PosterPacific Rim: Uprising

2013 was a great year for cinema and Pacific Rim is one of my favourite films from that year. With that in mind, it was a no-brainer that this film was going straight on my must-watch list. I have no real opinion on the cast for this, but since it has Charlie Day in it, I'm positive I can convince Neil to watch this with me.

Ready Player One Poster

Ready Player One

You know those books you've been meaning to read forever but never got round to? Well, that's Ready Player One for me. I'll probably read it just before I see the film, as is the proper thing to do, but I've heard so many good things about the book that there's no way I'm missing the film. Plus, the trailer looks epic (even Neil agrees).

Truth or Dare PosterTruth or Dare

Who doesn't love it when fun games turn dark? Starring Tyler Posey, this Teen Wolf trash can't resist watching this. Admittedly, I'm very skeptical as to whether it's going to be any good. I feel as though it's an overdone premise, so we'll have to wait and see. I'll go into it with an open mind, I promise.

Super Troopers 2 PosterSuper Troopers 2

Neil recently made me watch the first film, despite my reservations, and it was an entertaining hour or so. With that in mind, I won't drag my feet for the sequel. In theory, a comedy about cops makes me both cringe and yawn but in reality, I kinda love it.

Alpha PosterAlpha

It's a story of survival and that's all you need to tell me to get me to watch something, if I'm honest. Am I apocalypse obsessed? Maybe. Do I care? Not at all. Alpha is set during the last ice age, so it'll be interesting to see whether I can stand it for long enough. Give me films set in the future, that's fine, but set in the past, I struggle. Either way, the idea of it is exciting enough to make me give it a shot.

I'm using the Disney film poster for this as IMDb have yet to provide one for the live action, but I'm so excited for it. I've found that the live actions of any Disney movies are very hit and miss (Jungle Book was great - Tarzan was not) but as Mulan is one of my favourites, I have high hopes for it. Fingers crossed that this isn't a disappointment.

A Star Is Born PosterA Star Is Born

I love a rags-to-riches (and riches-to-rags) tale as much as the next guy and anything about the career of a actor and musician/actress in it is going to pique my interest. I'm not gonna lie - I don't think this movie is going to be spectacular and I don't have any hopes that it'll be a feel-good chick-flick... I just like the premise and am hoping for something that passes as a good execution of it.

Slender Man PosterSlender Man

Another horror for the list. I'm pretty sure it was a video game that catapulted Slender Man into popularity but he shares similarities with many of creatures of folklore and myth. I'm anticipating lots of suspense throughout this film, with a few jump scares, but have no idea for how the plot might turn out. Either way, I'll be watching it during the day.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms PosterThe Nutcracker and the Four Realms

I'll be totally honest with you - I mostly just want to watch this because I miss Barbie and the Nutcracker. But it also has Keira Knightly in it, so I'll watch it for her too. Between the description and the movie still on IMDb, I'm getting major Alice in Wonderland vibes. The recent live action remake of that wasn't too bad, so I think I can get my hopes up for this.

Smallfoot PosterSmallfoot

I'm as surprised as you are to find that an animation makes the list but... from a storytelling point of view I can't resist. It's about a yeti searching for elusive, mysterious humans. I love it when people turn stories and ideas on their head, so I'm pretty excited to see how this turns out.

That's the films I'm most excited about this year. I like to go into new films with no expectations. I find that I enjoy cinema so much more that way.
